Delta Pavonis - Wikipedia

Delta Pavonis, Latinized from δ Pavonis, is a single star in the southern constellation of Pavo. It has an apparent visual magnitude of 3.56, making it a fourth-magnitude star that is visible to the naked eye from the southern hemisphere. Parallax measurements yield an estimated distance of 19.89 light-years (6.10 parsecs) from Earth.

δ Pav b

Gas Giant with lots of moons, one of them habitated, many others have research or mining stations.

Mag Cíuin

“The Gentle Plain”

Large, rocky moon. The name comes from the first Irish settlers, who called all moons of interest after Gaelic mythological places. The moon is rather empty and only a few small to medium-sized settlements and some estates spread over the surface with a total of about 12500 individuals. Interesting though is the large network of tunnels below it's surface, that often connects different settlements. Original settlements have been underground before a thicker atmosphere was established. Many of these tunnels are now forgotten.

Places of interest are:

  • Rathúnas: with over 7000 inhabitants the biggest town on the moon. Clean and rather diverse. The only place with a real hotel and other tourist attractions. It features a museum of the history of δ Pavonis settlers, a zoo, a park and some statues. A tunnel connects it with Maol, which is used for transportation of produce.

  • Rathúlacht: high-tech town with almost 5000 inhabitants. Very clean, mostly walled garden housing, but also lots of cameras and dog-like security robots. Features some fancy cocktail bars and restaurants. Tunnels connect Rathúlacht with Maol and Knifes Edge, the former being still in use for transport of produce, the latter abandoned and mostly forgotten.

  • Maol: small settlement of mostly farms and workshops. The place is a boring ensemble of vertical gardens, factory buildings and modern housing. Less than 100 inhabitants. Geographically situated between the two big towns, Rathúlacht and Rathúnas, is it the main source of foods and goods that are not imported.

  • Pháirc: a mansion like real estate, away from all other towns. Home to the Collins family, the original settlers and quasi owners of δ Pavonis. The estate is huge, and is self-sufficient for years with fully autonomous facilities and the comfort of a five-star hotel.

  • Knife's Edge: small western style town with nothing more to offer than a Saloon and about 400 wary inhabitants. The place started as a visitor attraction, and some people simply stayed, adopted a puristic lifestyle and never looked back.

Mag Mell

(plain of delight)

Small moon rich of minerals and metal. Lots of volcanic activity in its past made resources easy to reach. Volcanic activity is a lot less nowadays, but eruptions still happen from time to time.

  • Mag Mell Mining Station: a fully automated mining station. No staff, except regular yearly check-up teams.
  • Mag Mell Crawler Fleet: robotic mining vehicles roam Mag Mells plains to gather resources and find new mining grounds.

Mag Findargat

(white-silver plain)

Icy moon with liquid water ocean under its surface, similar to Europa and Enceladus.

  • Findargat Research Station: permanent research post with five to eight long-term scientific staff. Although the station is embedded into the surface ice, research is mainly done under the over ten kilometre thick layer of ice.

Mag Argatnél

(silver-cloud plain)

Research and Hydrogen station in the Gas Giants clouds. Fully automated, no personnel, except regular yearly check-up teams.

Mag Ildathach

(multicoloured plain)

The asteroid belt between δ Pavonis and δ Pav b is not as large as the one between Mars and Jupiter, but still offers a generous amount of resources to build and trade with.

  • Multiple automated mining ships roam the belt for resources. Regularly visited by carrier shuttles. They usually work until breaking down and then slowly tumble around until hitting something in the belt and fall apart.
